MBCDF executes PV solar investment in Thailand

In November 2013, the Mekong Brahmaputra Clean Development Fund L.P. (MBCDF) made its fourth investment, taking a stake in Symbior Elements Holding Ltd. The investment into the P.P. Solar (Nongno) Ltd. 1 MW plant in Khon Kaen, Thailand generates up to 5 MWh of electricity per day.  The MBCDF and its partner Symbior Energy Ltd. of Hong Kong will co-invest in five separate PV solar projects totaling 29 MW to be developed in Thailand in 2014-2015.

Thailand is planning to triple its solar power capacity to 3,000 MW by 2021, when renewable energy will be expected to account for a quarter of the country's energy mix, up from 8 percent now. By that time, it is estimated that 20% of renewable energy will come from solar power. There is currently approximately 500 MW of Very Small Power Producer PV solar installed in Thailand.
